DEEP Radio Event

On a rainy day in October, Dunbar Earthquake and Emergency Planning (DEEP), the Pacific Spirit MedVents (Medical Venturers) and Vancouver Emergency Community Telecommunications Organization (VECTOR) teamed up to provide an introductory emergency radio training session for the public.  

The training session at the Disaster Support Hub introduced people to the MedVent’s and DEEP’s radio operations, providing basic skills in how to use mobile radios to help out our community at a time of urgent need.

When a major disaster such as an earthquake occurs, our usual communication modes – cell phones, the internet – may be out of commission for a sustained period. Radio operations at the Disaster Support Hub will be critical to the Dunbar community’s ability to obtain and pass on important information to and from regional disaster response authorities. Our mobile radios will help community volunteers to coordinate neighbourhood relief efforts including first aid, damage assessment, fire watch, and local search and rescue.
